What to wear to a Diwali party
Diwali evenings are warm light, a lot of sitting on the floor, and more photos than any other night of the year. The outfit that works is the one you can move in, that catches the lamp light, and that you have already seen on yourself.
Start with the colour, not the garment
Lamp light flatters warm colours: marigold, rust, deep red, mustard, emerald. Pastels can wash out after sunset; if you love them, pick one with a gold or zari border so the light has something to catch. Try two colours side by side on a model with your body type on the [kurta sets page](/women/kurta-sets): the preview is made in seconds and costs nothing.
Three shapes that sit well
- An anarkali or a flared kurta set moves well and forgives a long dinner. See the [kurta sets](/women/kurta-sets) and the [sets under ₹2,000](/women/kurta-sets/1000-2000).
- A saree with a blouse you already own. A silk or a soft tissue saree in one strong colour. The [sarees page](/women/sarees) shows the drape on a body like yours before you commit to a drape you will wear for six hours.
- A straight kurta with a Nehru jacket for men: the [men's kurtas](/men/kurtas) and [men's jackets](/men/jackets) pages pair well; keep the jacket in a contrast colour and the kurta plain.
Small things that matter in photos
Keep the dupatta on one shoulder, not two. Flat juttis beat heels on a marble floor with diyas on it. If the party is at home, the host usually wears the lighter colour and lets the guests shine.
See it on you first
Pick your body type once, then every outfit on Jachega opens on a model like you. Add one full-length photo and the same outfit appears on you, on your phone, without an account. The preview shows the look, not the fit: the brand's size chart decides that.
Style notes only: what suits whom is a matter of taste, and the fit of any garment is the brand's size chart's business, not ours. Written by Jachega, 2026-10-31.
